How to shop for luxury vinyl flooring

Not all vinyl flooring is the same, so when you shop for luxury vinyl flooring, there are certain things you should look for to be sure you're getting the luxury version that is right for you. This flooring has been a trend for the past several years. With constant innovations, it's only getting more and more popular; it has a high-end style with affordable, waterproof capabilities, durability, low maintenance, and easy installation. Here, from The Flooring Gallery, are suggestions to be sure you’re getting the real thing.

Image is everything

This vinyl flooring is considered to be a premium but the budget-friendly product. It offers true-to-life images of wood, stone, and tile in a wide assortment of colors and patterns. Since the photography is taken digitally, the representations are bright and clear, showing knots, grains, swirls, and variations. Color and patterns pop.

Micro beveling defines the edges, while embossing adds even more depth and dimension. There are also textured appearances available, such as wire-brushed, hand scraped, weathered, and distressed. The material can be cut into long planks with luxury vinyl to mimic hardwood boards, called vinyl plank flooring, or groutable squares to echo stone and tile, called LVT flooring.

Thickness matters in flooring

While all vinyl flooring is durable, the luxury version is thicker and should measure at least 8-mm, although you may want to go higher, especially if you choose vinyl plank flooring. It also has at least four layers, including an attached underlayment, core; design layer; and a top robust and transparent melamine coating that protects the floor from scratches and scuffs. This item is also 100% waterproof, constructed of all waterproof materials. It is, therefore, impervious from the bottom to top, meaning that it can be submerged or spilled on and still be fine after a wipe dry.

Care is simple. This product only requires daily sweeping and periodic mopping with a manufacturer-approved cleaner. Installation can also be fast and uncomplicated, especially when it's a floating floor where the pieces click together, mat, then hover over a clean, dry, and level subfloor with no nails or glue.
